1. Is it safe to fly during pregnancy? You should of course check with your physician before going on any flights, however, the standard healthy pregnancy is thought to cause no risk to the fetus. Therefore, in most cases it is absolutely safe to fly while pregnant. Be sure to check the airline you are using for their policy's for pregnant women. Some airlines have a limit on how far along you can be and still fly. Usually this is around 8 months incase you were to go into early labor.

2. Should I worry about an increased risk of cancer and birth defects if I fly during pregnancy? This is a worry that stems from the radiation which you are exposed to for a short amount of time during the flight. The amount of radiation which you are exposed to is extremely small, in fact, so small that it is considered no or extremely small risk. You would have to have a large amount of radiation exposure to increase the risk of birth defects and cancer.

3. When is the best time to fly while pregnant? You also may not want to travel too close to your due date incase of an early labor. Also some airlines forbid you to travel passed your eighth month.

4. What is DVT and what can I do to prevent it? DVT stands for Deep Vein Thrombosis. It is when a blood clot develops in a deep vein, which could lead to more serious complications, such as pulmonary embolism, this is very rare. Developing DVT during air travel is very rare, though, pregnant women are at an increased risk for developing DVT especially during flying, because of the length of time sitting in one place can cause poor circulation and could develop a blood clot. Therefore, it is essential for a pregnant woman to walk around frequently during the flight. Also drink plenty of water, wear loose fitting clothing, and you may even want to consider wearing compression stockings.
