Can Fetal Heart Rate really predict baby gender?

Some believe that the heart rate of an unborn baby can determine the gender of the baby.  According to this theory, if the baby’s heart rate is over 140 beats per minute you can expect a baby girl, but if the baby’s heart rate were below 140 you would be expecting a baby boy.

How accurate is the fetal heart rate method?
Unfortunately, it’s about as accurate as picking boy or girl from a hat blind folded.  If you were to measure your baby’s heart rate throughout the day, you’d notice that it’s up and down all day.  Of course when the baby is active the fetal heart rate will be higher, whereas, when the baby is sleeping the heart rate will be lower.  Most women only know there baby’s heart rate at their OB appointments and most will tell you it was above 140 some times and below at other times.
